Summer Beauty Essentials: 13 Must-Haves For Sun-Kissed Perfection

Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer is almost here. You know what that means: saying goodbye to heavy coats, hats, scarfs, boots and even extra emollient face creams and heavy foundations. As we get ready for summer, we may need to update our beauty products to accommodate the changing weather.  There are some formulations, textures and even colors that have been used during the cooler months that you may want to swap out for more lightweight and warm weather-friendly options. Below are a few summer beauty essentials to consider adding to your beauty arsenal if they are not already a part of you beauty routine.

Sun Protection.  It goes without saying that using sunscreen with at least a 30SPF is important, regardless of the time of the year. Protecting our skin from the damaging affects of UVA and UVB rays guards against wrinkles, sunspots, and sun damage. It is the most important of all of the summer beauty essentials. Please remember these three things:
  • Apply sunscreen to hands, feet, lips, and scalps.
  • Sunscreens over 50 are ineffective since SPF should be reapplied every 2 hours
  • Whenever possible, avoid the sun between the hours of 10 and 2 when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
Aloe Vera Gel. Aloe vera gel is great after a day at the pool or beach because it’s soothing, moisturizing and heals sun burns.  Nature Republic Soothing And Moisture Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel.
Dry Oil. Dry oil is great for moisturizing the skin and giving it a sheen without the heaviness and greasiness of heavier moisturizers that are often used for the winter. Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil.
Exfoliator.  A gentle exfoliator will help slough off dead skin so that shine and bronze-enhancing body products will perform better.  The Body Shop Spa Of The World African Ximenia Scrub.
Body Bronzers and Self Tanners. Body bronzers are great for a sun-kissed look without having been in the sun and without you waiting for your self-tanner to develop. If you want to have a tanned appearance for a longer period of time, then self tanner is the way to go. Before using any of these products, use your body exfoliator the night before so that you get a smoother application. Please remember to apply to feet, ankles, knees and hands. Already have a rich, deep complexion? Use these products to enhance your complexion and make it look more even.  Aquarian Soul Sunstone And Citrine Radiance Oil, Chocolate Sun Cocoa Glow Sunless Tanning Face & Body.
Gel Eyeliner. Gel eyeliners are great because they can resist sweat and humidity, glide on easily, and stay put until you take it off.  Swap out your traditional black liner for brown liner or even pops of color such as blue, turquoise or bronze.  Tarte Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner.
Cheek Tint. Forgo your traditional blush for warmer months and consider using a cheek tint for a flush of color. These are also great because you can apply with your finger and some formulas can also be used on the lips.  Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek.
Complexion Enhancers and Brightners. No one wants to wear heavy foundation in the warmer months. But that doesn’t mean you don’t want to look polished. You may opt to use your go-to concealer and BB or CC cream. If you want to pare down your complexion products even more, opt for translucent powder to banish shine and blotting papers are even better if you opt to not wear anything at all.  Dr Hauschka Translucent Face Powder, Boscia Blotting Papers.
Face Mist.  Of all of the summer beauty essentials, face mists are a favorite. Face mists are cooling and refreshing and can also keep whatever makeup you put on fresh. Spray throughout the day to revitalize the skin and the senses. Kronokare Aromatherapy Flower Power Toner.
Hair Serum Spray/Hair Sunscreen. Protect your tresses and your scalp with these products to help protect against damage from sun, heat, salt water, chlorine.  Phyto Plage Protective Sun Veil.
Sea Salt Spray for beach waves and texture without having to go to the beach.  Herbivore Sea Mist Texturizing Spray.
Dry Shampoo.  Dry shampoo is great for on the go and is perfect for creating texture, volume.  It also refreshes all hair types and hair styles including locs, braids, and twists.  Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo.
Refreshing Fragrance.  Nothing completes a summer look or a vacation look without a fragrance that engages the senses, leaving fond memories of fun summer days and nights.  Lurk BS 003 Eau de Toilette.
