You Don’t Have To Be A Supermodel to Wear These Trendy Lip Colors

These Are Not Your Grandma’s Lip Colors

Choosing new lip colors for the summer is the perfect way to update your look. The task can be daunting for some and a breeze for others. But the end goal is the samecreating beautiful looks that be done quickly, effectively, and stay put in the heat.

Over the past two summers, the trend in lip colors has not changed much. The most requested lip finish is a matte and semi-matte finish. The most requested colors fall into four main categories: Nudes, Reds, Unconventional Colors, and more recently, Metallics. What has changed is that more and more of our favorite brands have begun to create products in the most requested shades and formulations in an effort to remain competitive. But with makeup (hair or fashion for that matter) you can be as creative or as conservative as you want to be.

Nude lip colors vary in tone and shade. They range from brown, mauve, champagne, pink and beige to suit a multitude of complexions.  Nude lips look great paired with a more neutral makeup look or you can put more focus to a dramatic eye. Having trouble finding a nude lip color you like?  Try using a lip liner close to your complexion and a concealer 1-2 shades lighter than your complexion and blend.  Add a gloss or balm, if necessary.

As always, red lip colors are classic and the quickest way to look polished and pulled together. For many, this shade is worn often. But for others it is met with fear and trepidation. For those who fall into the latter category and want to experiment with the color for the first time, consider trying a gloss or balm.

A great way to step out of your comfort zone and out of the ordinary, try unconventional lip colors. That definitely include colors such as gray, blue, purple and green. There is no wrong way to wear these colors so take a chance. Create fun looks such as an ombre or rainbow lip. Keep in mind to have fun with this look and don’t take yourself too seriously. To keep the look from becoming too overwhelming, consider keeping the rest of your makeup look neutral.

Think of metallic finish lip colors as an updated version of the ’80s trend lipstick finish of frost. It is a modern way to add daring flair to your makeup look.  To make this look stand out, consider pairing with a more neutral eye look.
